X-Erinnerungen
Matthias Lilienthal / Helena Eckert / Friederike Kötter21 artists on 3 tours through the city along private flats, abandoned factories and hidden clubhouses
Description
For ‘X-Erinnerungen’, local and international artists go in search of traces in St. Pölten. A total of 21 locations, including private flats, abandoned factories and hidden clubhouses, will become places where memories are negotiated.
Along three routes in the north, south and through the centre of St. Pölten, the participating artists will each develop ten-minute performances, plays, concerts and installations, which will be explored in groups of two. The routes lead through the historic city centre, past the town hall and along the former synagogue to the government district, the place of the political present. In the north, it extends from the disused Glanzstoff factory, whose odour hung over St. Pölten for decades and whose work still leaves its mark today, to the recreational area of Lake Viehofner See. In the south, the tour spans the contrasts along the outskirts of the city, where historic railway yards and villa neighbourhoods are connected by multi-lane access roads.
The researched, imagined and remembered are combined with local contexts. The boundaries between public and private, between reality and staging, become blurred and invite the viewer to become an archaeologist of their own city.
‘X-Erinnerungen’ is an extension of the successful ‘X-Wohnungen’ format invented by theatre-maker Matthias Lilienthal, which has been realised worldwide since its first edition in 2002, including in Johannesburg, Caracas, Berlin and Duisburg.
