Sisters United
Gegen Gewalt an Frauen*Description
Violence against FLINTA* has many faces and still no end. The number of femicides is increasing year after year. Even in Europe FLINTA* increasingly have to fear for their lives.
FLINTA* is a collective term for all those who are not cis male. F stands for women, those who identify as female. L stands for lesbians, people read as female, who are homosexual. I stands for intersex people, those born with an ambiguous gender. N stands for non-binary people whose gender falls outside of female and male. T stands for trans people who do not identify with their assigned gender. A stands for agender people who do not identify with any gender. The star stands for all others who are marginalised by the patriarchal majority society due to their identity.
The Haus der Frau St. Pölten celebrates its 40th anniversary. During Tangente, a stage is given to those who do the important and often invisible work of preventing violence against FLINTA* and advancing gender equality.
“Sisters United” brings together experts, artists, activists, local heroines and organisations to explore the complexity of the issue with the audience through conversations, interventions and artistic contributions.
What are the economic, social and political components that set spirals of violence in motion? What about the legal situation? Why are intersectionality and intercultural competence so important? Why do we need new role models for men and more money for critical social work with men?
The programme includes workshops, theatre performances and discussions and for the finale a concert of the Iranian-Canadian artist Golnar Shayhar, who explores her origins and identity through her music.
