Kyle Abraham
Biography
Kyle Abraham (1977) grew up in Pittsburgh, USA, in an Afro-American neighborhood. He started dancing during his high school career when he participated in a musical. Although he discovered his love of dance comparatively late, he decided to pursue a career as a choreographer rather than a performer himself. In 2006, Kyle Abraham graduated from Tisch School of the Arts with a Master of Fine Arts and in the same year developed his solo choreography “Inventing Pookie Jenkins”, which turned the masculine stereotype on its head in the form of flowing movements and long skirts. He also founded the ensemble Kyle Abraham/Abraham in Motion (A.I.M.). His works deal with identitarian, historical and communal themes.
