Biography
Julian Lage and Gyan Riley are two of new music’s most accomplished guitar virtuosos. Featuring a high level of virtuosity tempered by elegance, love, respect and impeccable taste, their work with Zorn has produced a variety of masterpieces—a magical set of "Bagatelles", the sweet midnight music of "Midsummer Moons" (inspired by Shakespeare’s lunar imagery) and the rocking new band Insurrection.
New York-based American musician Julian Lage (1987, California) is known worldwide as an outstanding guitarist. He began performing in public as a child prodigy at the age of six, at eight he was already playing with famous artists such as Carlos Santana and at 15 he held a jazz workshop at Standford University. At the age of 12 US-musician Gyan Riley (1977, California) discovered his passion for the guitar. He studied at the conservatory in San Francisco and also works as a composer.
Lage and Riley come at music from different places: Lage, the jazz virtuoso, has lately crossed over into acoustic and folksy territory, while Riley, son of the legendary minimalist composer Terry Riley, has roots in new music as well as the classical tradition.
