Ari Benjamin Meyers

Biography

The American artist and composer Ari Benjamin Meyers (1972, USA) lives in Berlin and creates musical pieces for international stages and museums. He is particularly interested in formats that deploy the social and performative issues at stake in music. Meyers takes advantage of this unique occasion to deploy a piece for an entire territory and an entire afternoon and composes for Shared Landscapes 4 musical and sculptural works for the trees, the ground, the birds and the air, which unfold as the landscape and the day go by with 6 local musicians. He studied at the Juilliard School, Yale University and the Peabody Institute. His works – suc.h as “Kunsthalle for Music” (2018), “Symphony 80” (with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra), and “Solo for Ayumi” (both 2017) – explore structures and processes that redefine the performative, social, and ephemeral nature of music and the relationship between performer and audience. His diverse practice includes musical performances for the stage and exhibition spaces as well as three operas.
